We invite every individual, every family, every company or group of friends to make a real difference by sponsoring an Ashanti village.
Ideally, we would like to take you on a visit to Ashanti to choose the village for yourself. With us alongside to advise, you would work with the Chief, Elders and Village Council to draw up a strategy for development, always beginning with sanitation.
Back in Europe, you would give us the money as and when it suited you. We would spend it exactly in line with your agreement with the village, and you would be welcome to make more visits at any time and see the changes for yourself.
But we know that not everyone can come to Ghana and we are happy to work with you in whatever way suits you best. As a volunteers’ charity – we pay no wages or salaries for work outside Ghana – we are committed to transparency in all our dealings and will send you accounts, reports and photographs as often as you want.
We ask sponsors to start by funding a baseline survey (to enable us to estimate costs more accurately), training in health and hygiene and household latrines for their villages. In this part of Ashanti, water is normally provided by boreholes and we are looking elsewhere for finance to hire a rig for multiple drillings.
We’d be happy to send you more details and look forward to hearing from you.
Villages Looking For Sponsors 1917
It is notoriously difficult to estimate the population of a village without first carrying out a full baseline survey. These figures are therefore no more than rough estimates.
Over fifty villages of varying sizes have now found sponsors for sanitation. After the work is complete, many sponsors decide to give their villages something more, for example: –
– mosquito nets
– microcredit (business training and small loans for women)
– farm support (agricultural training and small loans)
– bee hives and training in bee-keeping
– a small clinic, known as a chip compound
– school buildings
– sports equipment
– laptops or a computer room
– scholarships for senior secondary school
– a playground (school registrations soar when a playground is installed)
– free school meals for toddlers
