Clean Water At Duomo

Nicholas, our Country Director, is busy distributing Aquafilters to villages where we believe boreholes would never succeed. Here he is, giving them out to Duomo village. At present, each household has to pay Ghc.5 (just under £1) for a household filter, but from now on we’re going to sell them on microcredit terms. Like that, we’ll have money to replace them when they break.

Sponsored Walk

Saturday 12th September is the day of our annual sponsored walk, starting at 2pm from St Pancras Old Church, north London, and ending at Limehouse, eight miles later.

The photo shows some of last year’s walkers.  Some walked fast, others walked slowly, but we all managed to get there in the end.  Let’s hope the same is true of this year.

Introducing Dagati

Here are some photos of the village of Dagati, which isn’t marked on any map. The cost of sanitation’s only £3,300 and it would make such a huge difference to their lives. (The water’s what they drink.)

Two New Kindergartens

Here’s another photo of the new kindergarten at Mpantuase, funded by Ab Roy and his team.  It looks wonderful, and everyone is delighted with it.

The se cond photo is the new kindergarten in Bonkron, funded by our sponsors Softwire.  It is the biggest kindergarten in Sekyere Central.

A Taste of Ghana, – New Venue

Saturday July 11, 4pm – 7pm

We’ve had to change the venue for our party on Saturday at short notice. It will now be held at:

The Tenants’ Hall (there’s a garden too!)
Underneath Tresham
Lambs Conduit Passage
London WC1R 4RE.

Lambs Conduit Passage is a little pedestrian alley off Red Lion Square, and the nearest tube station is Holborn.

This new venue is probably nicer than the old one, with a paved garden, shady trees and of course lots of Jollof Rice and other Ghanaian food. Plus Ghanaian music, posters and very good company.

We’re all looking forward to seeing you there.

This Year’s Tree Planting

Nicholas created a tree planting project some years ago. It involves school children planting and looking after saplings for three years, and has resulted in thousands of trees being planted. Here’s this year’s project.

And here’s a photo of our head cook, Martha Boadu, better known as Founding Director of Ashanti Development, waiting to welcome you.

Changing Lives

When Ally married Rupert on 30 May, one of her wedding presents was the money to provide three first loans for Ashanti Development’s new microcredit project.

The photos are of Elizabeth, Afua and Abiba of Brofeyedru village, who were the first beneficiaries. They are extremely happy to have been included in the scheme. They believe it will change their lives.
