After umpteen years and no end of energy, Gyetiase finally has a clean water supply. The water comes from a borehole which the MDA drilled at Tadiesa. The District let us take it over, and Nicholas and Clement have just finished organising pipes and pumps to take it uphill to an overhead tank just where the road from Tadiesa turns into Gyetiase.

How do you do the form work of the slab
We draw a circle on the ground and heap sand in the middle. Then we cover it with a plastic sheet or cement paper and put a ‘pattern’ on it. The pattern is a piece of wood which is cut to the size of the seat of the latrine. We spread concrete very thickly round it, maybe about six inches thick. The slab is made in a cone shape so the weight of the users will be spread across all sides.
