Children’s Health

Many children in our communities face preventable health challenges, from parasitic worm infections to malnutrition. Here’s how we help.

Deworming Initiative

Many children in our communities, especially those who go barefoot, suffer from parasitic worm infections. These infections can cause stomach pain, diarrhoea, fatigue, and malnutrition, and may prevent children from concentrating in school or even walking properly.

Until recently, the Ghanaian government provided free de-worming tablets, but this support has stopped in our region. In response, we organise annual de-worming initiatives, working with District Health Officers to distribute tablets, ensure safe treatment, and educate families on hygiene to reduce reinfection. These simple, low-cost tablets can dramatically improve a child’s health and energy in just a few days.

Weanimix

Early on, we were concerned by the number of malnourished babies in Ashanti. While district nurses regularly weighed infants and identified those who were underweight, no follow-up care was provided, leaving many children vulnerable to long-term health issues.

In response, we began accompanying the district nurse on her rounds. Where babies were severely malnourished, we provided Weanimix — a nutritious food supplement made from powdered beans, corn, and groundnuts — along with guidance for mothers on how to mix and use it. Over time, the number of children needing support has fallen, reflecting improvements in infant nutrition across the district.

Your contributions help us reach more children with life-saving care, from deworming to nutrition programs, and extend these services to the most vulnerable communities. Just 50p provides deworming tablets for one child for a full year.
